Not much else to add. The comic pretty much says it all. Let me assure you that no one is as upset about this as I am. ...I'm the one who actually has to study! Arg! It's not fair! This stinks! I should sue! How could this happen!? And so on.
Now, we're obvious going to take a hit in the polls this week in the absence of some updates. However, we're close to making it into the top 100. So please, I beg of you, vote for us every day.
Enjoy,

Well I'm glad we got all that straightened out.
I'm happy with how this one came out. And, ultimately, I'm glad I put it off until now. The one I had planed to upload last time was not nearly as good as this one. I think it was worth the wait, hope you all agree.
Anyway, here is #46, as promised. Unfortunately, I could not think of a good sword to do the next weapons monthly on, so I'll have to put that off. In compensation, however, we have a Kingdom Hearts II gallery upgrade (see below). Check it out when you have a moment.
Enjoy,

And so, it came to pass that Jon finally got some decent screenshots of the Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix secret ending move, and added them unto the Kingdom Hearts II gallery.
Okay, first of all, let me say that these Final Mix screenshots look way better in the gallery than they do in these small picture/links. These really do not do them justice at all. But I can't very well have all the full-sized pics posted here, or else this table will be way too big (I mean, look how bit it is with just the minimized shots stacked in it).
The new Kingdom Hearts II pics are ripped from this video which, for some reason, I found especially difficult to work with. Maybe it was because it moves from frame to frame so quickly, maybe it was because I could not get the video to be the right size, or maybe my video-ripping abilities have waned a bit since I have not done any screen-capturing in a while, I'm not sure.
But, whatever the reason was, it took me a long time to get some decent shots (and then a long time to get this rant to look the way I wanted it). The shots I finally got are still a little blurry for my liking, but they will have to suffice, at least for now.
I took some of the especially good screenshots I got from the video, and turned them into psp wallpapers (nine in all), so check that out as well, when you have a moment. I may put a few more up later, when I have time.
Hope you guys enjoy the pics and the wallpapers. Also, take some time to watch the video, it is quite impressive.
#46 will be up tonight, and I'll try to get a new weapons monthly up tonight as well. ...If I can think of a new sword to do one on... |

#46 Delayed (posted by Jon) |
I'm sorry everyone, but I'm going to have to delay #46 until Thursday. Not because I don't have anything done, but because I am not satisfied with the script for it, and the backgrounds are terrible.
I've been weighed down with schoolwork this week and what came out just feels too rushed. I could upload it, but I'm just not satisfied with it. So much so that I would rather miss the update and upload on Thursday.
But don't worry, I'll make it worth the wait.
Thanks,

NEW CONTACT ADDRESS!!!!! (posted by Jon) |
Hello everyone. It is has been brought to my attention that the e-mail address I have been using for people to contact me on the site (thependragonx@lovesanime.com) is not working. I blame myself. The server it was on was freaking called retardedmail.com, what did I think was going to happen!?
Anyway, I have replaced all of the "thependragonx@lovesanime.com" links with working thependragonx@hotmail.com addresses. If you have tried to contact me for any reason and were not successful, please try me again at this address. I know for a fact that this one works.
Thanks,

New Update Schedule!!! (posted by Jon) |
Ok guys, sorry to do this to you now, but I have to change my update scheduel. I'm having too much trouble keeping up with the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday update schedule, and usually end up posting late, or missing updates. Thus, I am going to switch to a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday schedule. It's just easier for me.
This should make it easier for me to update on time. |

Dear Namco,
As a big Soul Caliber II and slightly less of a Soul Caliber III fan, I have compiled a list of demands regarding Soul Caliber IV, should you ever choose to release it. They are as follows:
- Team Battle mode must be brought back.
- The weapon effects should work in both single and multiplayer.
- If you have the "create your own character" thing again, don't make them equivalent to certain bonus characters, give them unique fighting styles.
- There shall be a secret five-hundred button combo that makes Vold explode.
- Doppelganger Zasalamel!? Never do that again!
- Give Yoshimitsu some better costumes, would you? You've left me with a choice between a chicken mask and a mutated Davy Jones over here...
- Same deal with Voldo. You've left me with a mutant sun...thing, and a...I don't even want to think about what this other one is supposed to be...
|
|
If these demands are not met, I will...will....probably not do anything. But still!
Best,
Jonathan Gilbert

Point of interest: I read on Wiki that there is a Soul Caliber game (Soul Caliber Legends) planned for the Wii. I'll try to get some screens over the weekend. |

My mistake, Wiggs and Sledge will make the debuts next update (#46).
Anyway, I like how this one came out. Just something about making Terry wear girly sunglasses...
Well, we've moved up in the polls a bit (yay!), so I want to personally thank everyone who voted, it helped us a lot. We're hoping to move even higher (into the top 100), so please vote once a day if you can.
Also, in case you missed it earlier, I'm afraid that Krunal and I have had to cancel our Smash Brothers: Melee tournament. We are having trouble keeping in touch with our host (they were supposed to send us a contract a few months ago, but seem to have forgotten about us). And, quite frankly, Krunal and I are just not in Anaheim often enough to coordinate anything well enough. We may give it a try later, but it's cancelled for now I'm afraid.
On a brighter note, the Soul Caliber II and III reviews are up.
Enjoy,

I think this one came out alright, and I am thrilled that Wiggs and Sledge will finally make their debuts next update.
For some reason, every time I watch a YouTube movie on fullscreen it messes up photoshop (and no, I didn't try to take screen shots or anything, I was just watching this). I really hope they fix that in the near future...if not right now.
Well everyone, flu season is upon us. I'm living - *achoo!* - proof. Which is why it is high time I shared with the world my incredible home remedy for the flu:
- 1-2 packages of grocery store sushi
- 2-3 slices of pizza
- At least ten episodes of Fruits Basket, Ranma 1/2, or FLCL (even though there are clearly only 6 episodes of FLCL total)
- And then maybe watch this a couple of times.
Side effects are almost never mild, and may include, but are not limited to:
- Ineffectiveness
- FLCL-related weirded-out-ness
- Drowsiness
- An intense desire to see Ranma beat up Happosai (I have a bout of that myself)
- Flu-like symptoms
But, when if that doesn't work, vote for us a couple of times and see if that helps.
Enjoy,

Smash Brothers: Brawl needs to come out...like right now.
Well everyone, it looks like Jeff is actually the one who won that last fight, not Ganon. Please take a moment to allow this information to sink in...................................ok, that's good enough.
Here is where I'm really starting to deviate from my original script. In my original script, Jeff was just a minor character who was at the wrong place at the wrong time, and got killed after Ganon activated the Triforce. This time around, he's obviously going to be a much more important character. And what, I wonder, has happened to Ganon...?
Everyone, I'm sorry for taking so long to upload this episode (see below), and that the comic updates have been so erratic recently, but I should be back on track now.
It's funny, when you miss updating for so long, the viewers start to worry that you may never update again. And then, as time passes, you yourself being to worry that you will never update again. But then you finally do, and everyone is happy.
Anyway, thanks for bearing with me (or bearing with the lack of me, or whatever) this weekend. I should be back on track now, and I'll have that Pirates 3 review I promised up later on today.
Also, we took a hit in the polls since I missed updating last weekend, so please vote when you have a moment.
Enjoy,

Episode #43: At SLO's End (posted by Jon) |
Hey everyone, I'm afraid that I won't be able to get comic #43 up until Monday evening. I spent all most of Thursday preparing a diet analysis project for nurition - I'll spare you the list of things that went horribly wrong while I was doing that - attending classes, and driving to Oakland to visit with my mother, so I was not able to get any work done that day.
On Friday, I flew down to OC with my sister to visit my dad (his birthday is coming up, so we wanted to drop by). Originally, the plan was for my, my sister (Ally), and my dad to meet up with Krunal, Eric, Brian, Steve, and Tony around 5:00pm, and go see a 6:00pm show of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. I figured I would work on the comic from 9pm to midnight after it was over. Krunal offered to go ahead of time and pick up tickets, so we would not have to get there too early. Unfortunately, my dad did not want to go to that early of a show, so we pushed it back to 7pm. Everyone was supposed to arrive around 5:30, except for Eric who admits that he's going to be late.
Well we get home around 5:10, and everyone is late, except Eric - you know, the guy who was supposed to be late - he arrived early. Not only that, but Steve can't come and Tony needs a ride. Brian arrives around half an hour after Eric, and Krunal calls and tells us he's going to be especially late. Luckily he also agreed to give Tony a ride.
By the time Krunal and Tony arrive, it's around 7pm, and Krunal was not able to get any early tickets. Krunal and Tony are also really hungry, so we leave and go eat. Finally, we get to a 10:10 show of Pirates, which gets me home around 1am, with #43 barely even started. So I have two options: 1) get no sleep and still not finish 43, or 2) get a few hours of sleep, and finish #43 late the next morning. Normally I'm more the type to go for option one, but I was pretty tired so I went for option two.
And then disaster...
I neglected to take into account that I would have to wake up early the next morning to go with Ally and dad to pick up one of my aunts and one of my cousins at the airport.
I am then informed that we will be joining them for breakfast at my grandparents' house. So we go, breakfast is good, and I had a great time. Next, we head back home. I figure we should be home long enough for me to finish #43 before we join my grandparents' again for dinner.
We get home, and I do a little work, but I'm still exhausted. I decide to take a one hour nap. Allison is supposed to wake me up, but she fails to do that, on grounds that she fell asleep too. By the time we wake up, it's already time to go to dinner. Once again we get home late, and I end up falling asleep before I finish.
So I wake up the next day, and I says to myself "enough! I am gonna get #43 done! No more waiting! No more falling asleep! No more Van Winkle syndrome! No more interference! No matter what happens, I am going to finish #43!" ...And then I realized that I don't have the right images on my laptop, so I can't finish until Monday when I get back to SLO.
...Man, if I had known that, I could have at least gone the whole weekend without worrying about getting it done.
Now, with all that out of the way, Pirates: At World's End was a terrific movie. It's even more epic and action-packed than the other, and still really funny. I'll try to have a review for it up on Monday.
Enjoy,
Jonathan R. Gilbert

New t-shirts in our shop! (posted by Jon) |
So I was talking to Krunal, and we both thought that Ganon's "holy mistletoe in a shoe!" comment was so good that it was worthy of being put on a t-shirt in our shop. So I sprited-up some images of shoes with bushels of mistletoe crammed in them, and Krunal got them printed on t-shirts. Take a look if you're interested. |

Everyone, I'm sorry for missing that last update; I just had too much going on. I had to study for a nutrition quiz (survived it), and an economics quiz (owned it), and do some poetry homework (somewhere in between) Monday afternoon through Monday evening, so I was pressed for time. After that, it pretty much took me all of Tuesday (yesterday) to get the background to look how I wanted. Then I finished the dialogue today after all of my classes. Sorry for the wait. Hope you guys like it.
That said, I am very happy with how this one came out. The background looks good (worth all the time I spent on it). I especially like how the Moomba (bottom/left) looks doing that fiery explosion. Pandemonium looks good next to him, and D. Narrator looks good in the middle. Top looks awesome too, if I do say so myself.
Even after I got the top and bottom down, however, I still took me a while to decide what to put on the sides of the censored frame. At first I had a light-elemental eidolon, but then I realized "wait...if he's a villain isn't that kind of inappropriate?" So I decided against that, and replaced it with a dark eidolon (Shadow), which makes a lot more sense, and gives me a great idea for a fight scene...
The other side was a lot easier, once I decided that he should have at least one water-elemental one. That simplified things quite a bit.
Oh, and if you have not done so already, check out the new t-shirts in our shop! Krunal and I got some new stuff in, based on something Ganon said in the previous comic.
Well the weekend is coming up, which means soon I will finally be able to satisfy my renewed urge to play Final Fantasy XII and Shadow Hearts: From the New World. And then I can watch some more Ranmna 1/2.
Enjoy,

Yes, that's right. Well played indeed, Jeff. But you know what happens to bad little fishes who wiggle through the...what's that? ...Oh, right! The rant!
I really like how this comic came out, it exceeded my initial expectations, and it's much better than my first version. Also, I'm really happy with how that couch came out in that last frame. It came out perfectly, if I do say so myself.
Ok, so Krunal read yesterday's rant, and pointed out that I'm yet to upload the pics of him at the Caribbean. I'll try to rectify that this weekend. Also, I'm going to divide the job list - which I wrote for fun forever ago - into some smaller parts. In its current state, it has so many lines of code that it lags notepad - which, I remind you, is really really funny. And then, of course, there's the games reviews that I still need to post...
Also, I saw the last episode of Inuyasha - which I have been watching steadily over the past few weeks on tv - yesterday evening. Overall, I thought the series was pretty good (the parts I saw of it anyway), but I was a tad disappointed with the ending...or the lack thereof. The show ends before the story ends. Apparently it caught up with the manga it's based on, and instead of throwing in years and years of filler episodes while the manga moved ahead (like Naruto), they just ended it when it hit that point.
Still, the show is good, and I like it a lot. In retrospect, it is kind of nice that it ended and started over, because now I can watch it from the beginning, instead of starting en medias res. Yay!
I'll just have to invest in the manga if I want to know what happens after the anime's last episode...

That's right Jeff. Annoy the guy with the Triforce hidden under his couch. That sort of thing always works out well.
I struggled slightly with the dialogue of this comic (I kept making Jeff's rant too interesting; an odd sort of problem to have...), but I think it came out quite well. It's a bit text-heavy, but then again Jeff did say that he was going to "ramble on endlessly" about his "grotesquely uninteresting life" for "four or five days." *Shrug*
Anyway, I'm sorry for updating so late today everyone. I was up all night/most of this morning working on tickets for our Smash Brothers Tournament, which are now available online, here. Order now for a discount! ....Please.
Once I was done with the tickets, I had to run (literally) over to the apartment that my friends and I will be sharing a room next quarter, and get some of my affairs in order. But I'm back now, and the update is ready!
Well our image gallery is up to 177 images...
|
...but we're still at zero submitted wallpapers, and zero submitted psp wallpapers. I just want to remind anyone who is interested that you can send us psp wallpapers, desktop wallpapers, and fanart if you are interested. No pressure, just something you can contact us about if you are interested.
Also, I'm not sure what new game images I should get for the gallery, so if anyone wants to contact me and suggest a new game trailer that I should get screenshots from, I'm open to suggestions.
Don't get my wrong, I'm quite pleased with the collection of screenshots that I have already amassed, but lately I find myself wanting to add to it. Unfortunately, I'm a bit behind on what new game trailers have come out.
I know the next .Hack//GU will be arriving soon, that Smash Brothers Brawl has released some early footage (if only a little), and that the Final Fantasy [Versus] XIII games are lurking in the shadows, but that's about it.
Currently I'm trying to get some screens of the Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix alternate ending, but I am having the hardest time getting them to look right. No worries though, I'll get them eventually.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go edit the spelling on the psp wallpaper page. For some reason I spelled "Evangelion" with two L's on that page, every chance I got... |
Oh! And Curtis, if you're reading this (and now that I think about it, even if you're not) you rock! Thanks for your support!

That "Webcomics" tv show was Krunal's idea. A good call I'd say.
My original plan was to do another comic with Final Fantasy VI jokes, but they took up quite a bit of room (fifteen single frames; 5/7ths of one comic). I liked the Final Fantasy VI jokes, but I didn't want to go another comic without moving on to Ganon's arrival home, so I ended up cutting most it out (just left the comment in the first frame of this comic). I'll return to the subject later on if it comes up again in the script (like it did in 37).
Well, this is the second time in a row I've slept through my poetry class because of what was supposed to be a short catnap. Sleeping is more trouble than it's worth, I'm thinking of going cold turkey on it. I'll have to track down my professor's office tommorrow, and turn in the obscenely large amount of late work I've amassed, and pray that he has mercy on me.
On a brighter note, my dad got me an awesome early birthday present: an ipod radio antenna/speaker. And my sister was able to fix my ipod, which made it all the more special. It's nice to know that my family members aren't completely useless is is so full of generous handymen and handywomen.
Also, the new psp wallpapers are almost ready, so they should be on later today or tomorrow. Stay tuned for that.
Enjoy,

Ah yes. Nothing like a little Final Fantasy VI humor to cheer you up after the FA fire spirit's untimely demise.
I like how this one came out. Took me a long time to find the right images, and get photoshop to stop hiccuping (word of advice: print-screening images from full-screen videos on YouTube causes photoshop - or my version of photoshop anyway - to temporarily get stuck in the hand tool - it didn't use to, but it does now that they changed the video format on me), but it was worth it.
As you may have inferred from today's comic, I went and saw 28 Weeks Later this evening, and I quite enjoyed it. Not sure if it was as good as 28 Days Later, but nevertheless, I did enjoy it. When I have a moment, I may throw together a review for it.
Well I finally got all of the spyware off of my machine (took three sweeps and three reboots, but it's gone). The sound card still glitches now and again, but, otherwise, it is running much more smoothly.
Also, let me apologize again for missing the last update (see below for details). I worked as quickly as I could, but, in the end, too many things went wrong, and I was not able to finish it until today. Hope it was worth the wait.
Oh, and, if it's any consolation, there will be new psp wallpapers at some point this weekend.
Enjoy,

Jon Van Winkle (posted by Jon) |
Hello everyone. Please allow to apologize for not updating last night/this morning (5/10/07). Here's what happened...
Sunday night/Monday morning, I got almost no sleep, as I had to prepare a poetry presentation. Monday night/Tuesday morning, I was still able to update, but had to, thereafter, stay up all night trying to study for an English midterm, but constantly getting sidetracked by Inuyasha. Tuesday night/Wednesday (yesterday) morning, I got no sleep as I had to do all the studying for the English midterm that I did, in fact, not do Tuesday.
At about 3pm yesterday, I had survived my English midterm, attended my economics class (physically), and dragged myself home. I had a little bit of time between getting home and going to my poetry class, so I decided to take a one hour nap. Big mistake...
I set my alarm, hit the hay, and had two consecutive dreams. During the first dream, I was in my dorm (except I had a bathtub in place of a bed for some reason), and I was doing whatever. Then I heard a terrible beeping noise (in retrospect, probably my alarm going off), and I tried to take cover in the bathtub...yeah, I guess I thought the beeping was a bomb, and that the bathtub would shield me from the explosion like in Lethal Weapon 2...or something...
I think at this point I may have woken up long enough to realize that one my roommates had guests over and then dozed off again, but I can't be sure. It's all a vague blur...
Anyway, here begins dream #2. I was wandering around campus late at night, and I happened upon a woman - whom I could have sworn I'd seen somewhere before in real life - wandering around as well. We got to talking, and an annoying beeping noise (different from the first) started playing. But, having realized from the first dream that it was, in fact, not form a bomb, I opted to ignore it.
The girl and I chatted for a while, and then she heard the noise too and asked me what it was. And I told her "I dunno...though it does sound an awful lot like my alarm cl -" and then I woke up. I picked up my phone/alarm clock to turn it off and, to my horror, discovered that it was 8am Thursday! I slept from 3pm Wednessday to 8am Thursday! Sixteen hours!
That's right. The very concept of a woman was enough to make me to sleep through my poetry class, miss updating the comic, and left me with a measly four hours to get up, shower, and prepare my nutrition diet-analysis project! So I dragged myself out of bed, showered, and got my project done just in the nick of time (printing that thing alone took almost half an hour...).
So here's what I gather. The beeping noise in my first dream as my alarm, and I just hid in the bathtub until it stopped going off (subconsciously, I was probably just looking for an excuse not to go to class). The second beeping (which did not start until the next dream) was actually Krunal leaving me a text message about how his computer doesn't work.
So yeah. My one hour catnap turned into a sixteen hour snooze-fest! I mean, I've overslept before, but good God! Oversleeping Fifteen hours!? Except maybe for that time Sam overslept till 5pm (might even have been 6pm; it's somewhere in there), that has to be some kind of record!
Naturally, I was really hungry when I woke up, having slept through a dinner, the bag of chips I usually eat around midnight while I'm updating, a breakfast, and I was in class well past the time I usually have my early Tuesday lunch.
So I would like to make it up to you by updating today, but problems keep arising. I was not out of class until 2pm, then I had to go eat lunch (again with the hunger). Then I found myself locked out of my dorm (without my phone), as my keycard is no longer working. Eventually, one of my roommates, Kenny, happened by and let me in. Then, when I got inside, my internet wasn't working (I hate Clean Access Agent almost as much as I hate the fact that my school requires me to have it running all the time...).
I fixed my net access, and then I rebooted. After my computer woke up, I had to spend forever getting some newly-discovered spyware off of it. Then I had to reboot again to fix my soundcard (I don't know what was up with that, the sound was broken for everything except the beeps that come with error messages). When my computer woke up again, a new bath of spyware was waiting for me.
So, I would love to update right now and make it up to you, but I can't yet. The spirit is willing, but the computer is weak, and the flesh is still kind of groggy. I'll start working again as soon as I can, but it's looking like I'm going to have to push #38 back until Friday. Try not to hate me too much.
Enjoy,
Jonathan R. Gilbert

And here we have the second half of yesterday's update. I feel like it came out quite well (it gives the FA fire spirit a nice farewell, allows the Narrator to say a few words, and still has time for a punchline at the end). Hopefully you all agree.
Well my Bleach dvds arrived, and I'm happy to say that the subtitles are pretty good. I also started watching the dub. I watched one episode dubbed a while back, and was disappointed, but recently I saw a few more and thought they were good. Must have just caught it on an off day...
Also, I would like to remind everyone that tickets for our Smash Brothers Tournament are on sale, and if you register early (here) you can save a bit of money (not a huge amount, but $3 is $3...). Also, it would help us out a lot if we had an idea as to how many people are coming. If you are interested, please go ahead and do that. We'd love to have you aboard. :)
Oh, and on that note, please be sure to vote for us.
Our comic has been steadily ascending the ranks of webcomic lists, but we need your support to go even higher. If you like our comic, please click the buttons on the sidebar (or just go here if you're having trouble finding them) once a day and vote for us. We appreciate your support.

Krunal wrote up a 300 review; our shortest and most to-the-point review yet.
"That's a real man's review!" raves Krunal.
"Uhh..." retorts Jon.
300 was a terrific movie. I'm not sure if I liked it as much as Krunal - it's mathematically impossible for me to have liked it any more - but I did enjoy it. The fighting was quite spectacular - if you don't mind all the gore - and the characters were a lot more likable than I expected, which was big relief. Movies that have nothing but evil, emotionless, unlikable characters really don't do it for me. I'm glad they remembered to make the Spartans likable (although I think it romanticized their society a bit).
Anyway, check out the review. It's good good stuff. |

Alright, I wrote up a Spiderman 3 review.
Not everyone liked the movie, but I thought it was alright - and remember, I'm the guy who said he was going to try to find a way to make the Freaking Awesome Fire Spirit survive the 'ice spear' and then spent two comics portraying his body fading away and his soul his being sent adrift, while, all the while, D. Narrator laments his passing, I mean who are you going to believe? |
|
| It definately has it's problems, but I feel it's worth seeing once, and Krunal agrees. When asked for his opinion, Tony commented that it was "the worst movie I've ever seen, yet so fabulous..." I'm not really sure what to make of that, but whatever, it had the word "fabulous" in it. |
|
|
Those of you who say this episode feels a tad unfinished are right on the money. Part two of "funeral pyre" will air next update. I had to divide it into two epsiodes, as I lost too much of the script when I tried to compress it into one.
In other news, Spiderman 3 was awesome! It exceeded all of my expectations. When I saw how many villains there were going to be in the previews, I was worried that they would have trouble keeping it all together, but they did a superb job. I really can't stress strongly enough how much all of you should go see it. Chop, chop!
Anyway, I just turned in a really late English assignment. I got an e-mail from my professor saying that it was due "Friday at noon." To remind myself, I noted it as "due Friday at 12:00." And then, I looked at the note a few days later, and thought it was due "Friday at midnight." Boy was my face red...
So I'm praying that she accepts it. Even if she doesn't, however, it will not change the fact that Spiderman 3 was totally awesome!
Enjoy,

The story of world hunger, poor senate decisions, the ever-increasing-fragility of the global trade market, how exhausted I am right now, and why I missed updating on Monday was overshadowed today by the announcement that Krunal and I have both acquired Spiderman 3 tickets! Yay!
And thus concludes Emmy's flashback. I'm happy with this episode (which is a relief, because I was disappointed with the last three, and was beginning to worry that I would never get back on track...), and I hope you all are as well.
We'll be moving into the next story arc here, which boasts a very promising script, and houses the debuts of some excellent new characters. Please look forward to that.
Well I've continued playing Sonic and the Secret Rings, and it continues to be awesome. I am definitely going to recommend that game to anyone who likes the classic arcade-style Sonic games. Krunal talked me into getting Paper Mario for the Wii, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I'll work on that.
Otherwise, not much else to report. I'm a bit worried about my econ and poetry grades (the econ midterm was a bit difficult, and my first batch of poems received mixed reviews at best), but they're fixable, so I'm not panicking. I have a nutrition quiz at noon tomorrow, but I only need to review a few chapters, so there's not sense in freaking out about that either. Yup, despite it all, I think I'm actually doing ok. Hope you're all doing well too.
...Also, I should probably mention that the overshadow joke in this rant's first paragraph is a variation of a joke from Sim One (a very enjoyable movie that I happed to catch on tv a couple weeks ago).
Enjoy,

I struggled a bit with this one, but I think it turned out alright. Next update we'll finish Emmy's flashback, and then move on to the next story arc. I've had fun with Emmy's flashback (I always appreciate it when comics and shows explain how things happen, instead of just having characters mysteriously survive things, so I thought it only fair that I do the same), but I am anxious to start the next story arc, so I'm glad to be finishing it up. Hope you all have enjoyed it.

So Emmy's weight is around 1/1655681818181818.1818...ths that of planet Earth's weight. That's, umm...good?
Man, I am exhausted! I was up until 4am working on this comic (got a late start, what with school work and all...), and then I waited a while to upload it, on grounds that I needed to study for a nutrition midterm. Unfortunately, I dozed while reading the textbook, and arrived at the test almost an hour late. Luckily, I was still able to finish most of it. If I get everything I answered correct I'll get away with it.
The stuffed double western idea dates back to spring break, when Sam, Eric, and I were hanging out. We were debating what to order for dinner. Eric wanted to get double westerns, and Sam wanted to get stuffed-crust pizza. Naturally, the idea of mozzarella-stuffed-bun double westerns was discussed. Which begged the following question: "would eating stuffed double westerns kill someone on the spot, or just eventually?" Eric claims it would be like eating a heart attack and everyone would die, but I say that it would take at least three for that to happen. Also, I just asked Krunal, he says "eventually."
But, for those of you who aren't convinced, just let us know and we'll happily substitute the mozzarella cheese for egg whites. That'll teach you to disagree with me...

Oh, one minor note here: I made a slight change to frame three of episode #32.
Seems I accidentally mixed up "stratosphere" and "exosphere." The stratosphere is a lower layer of the atmosphere, Emmy wouldn't make it into space if he only went through that.

This episode feels a bit bland to me. Not that it's bad, I just feel like I could have done a better job with it. Krunal assures me that it's good, and I can only hope that you all agree. At any rate, I'll try to bring you guys something even better next update.
Well I'm afraid it's finally happened; I've run out of Bleach episodes. I did find a place online that sells the next batch (here), but I live in mortal dread that they will be poorly translated, since they are not officially available in the US (I've been lucky lately, but I have run into some pretty bad subtitle translations in my day, let me tell you...). The horrible sad truth is that fansub subtitle translations are often the most reliable. Too bad most of them are illegal... Oh well. I'll get the disks, and hope for the best. Let us pray that they are awesome...
Anyway, I'm sorry for that missed update, but I hope some of you got a chuckle out of it. I should be back on track as of this week, and with any luck I'll finally get the last batch of reviews up too...

Truly, there are few things more irritating than trying to make a comic out of images you forgot to bring to Oakland, on a laptop with a big crack in its screen, when the batteries in your wireless mouse are dead, while your ever-increasingly-flakey sister gives you dozens - perhaps hundreds - of other problems to deal with...
In lighter news, I saw Hut Fuzz last night, and man was it awesome! It was an absolutely perfect blend of comedy, drama, and parody, backed up by monumentally good acting! You can be sure I'll write a movie review for that later...
The comic should be back on track once I get home Sunday night, and make Monday's comic. Now, click here and vote, monkey! ...Please, click here and vote, monkey...sir.

I'm happy with this episode; a bit of simple humor to celebrate Emmy's return.
As I was writing the script for this episode, I soon realized that it would work better if Emmy was a little more in-frame while he was talking. My original idea was to have him cast some kind of spell that makes him fit more easily into it (probably would have called it 'minimize' or 'compress form' or something), but I like this a lot better. This way is more realistic, and that line where he tells Leviathan to move back a bit fits in nicely.
Also, I want to thank everyone who read my little rant against Jack Thompson (it's here if you're interested). To those who didn't, no hard feelings, I know not everyone is interested.
In closing, I started watching Bleach, and it is awesome! I love it! I am hopelessly addicted, but in a good way. ...Oh, and vote for us, if you please (buttons are on the left, or click here if you need quick access to them).

I don't know what to make of Maximo. The graphics were ok, and the grim reaper was funny in the opening cinema, but I was so so bad at it! Now I know how all of my Guitar-Hero-playing friends feel...
This comic took a long time to make, as Kurnal and I kept disagreeing on the script...
|
| We should have Emmy sipping pina coladas on beach somewhere. |
|
|
| ...That would raise all kinds of plotholes... |
|
|
|
But, in the end, awesome grim reaper pics were found, and the script was perfected. I could not be happier with how it came out. I put that King of Queens reference in the last frame, as I share his disappointment that the show will be ending soon.
Also, for those of you who haven't noticed, I put some voting buttons on the left of the home, archives, and latest pages (I'll put them on the comic pages in a bit). Please click on one and vote for us now and then (once a day, ideally), so that our comic can move up in the ranks at Buzz Comix, and TWC (the buttons are posted right below if you can't find them).
I would also like to add, that my heart goes out to all of the victims of the Virginia Tech shooting, and to those who lost friends, family members, and loved ones in the shooting. Tragedies like that should never occur.
I ask you to please view this shooting for what it is, a tragedy spawned from a lack of judgment and conscience on the part of the shooters. Do not demean the shooter's crime by listening to the idiotic, red-herring-spewing, vermin who irrationally blame it on video games. It's the shooter's fault, not the fault of video games. I'll end my rant here, as I don't want to go on too long, but I'll post the rest here for those who want to read it.

First off I would like to offer my condolences to all those who knew the victims of the shooting at Virginia Tech Monday. I have friends there, and I thank God that they are uninjured.
Now it has come to my attention that some people (Jack Thompson) are blaming this shooting on video games. I want to clear this up for everyone right now. Video games do not kill people, PEOPLE kill people. I am sick of these people who insist on finding something else to blame every time a tragedy occurs. Video games are merely a form of entertainment to distract people from the stress of everyday life. It is a way of relieving tension, and, at least for me, prevents me from taking my anger out on someone else, either physically or verbally.
We hear about how video games supposedly train people on how to kill people. I would like to bring up an example from concerned women for America. They bring up plenty of examples where killers played Doom. But Doom doesn’t put a gun in a persons hand. And it doesn’t teach people to how to shoot people in the head at 25 feet (well, it kinda does, but not in real life). Anyway I’ve ranted long enough, I just want to say that it is despicable that a person would use a tragedy like this shooting to promote their own political ideas. And, once again, my heart goes out to all those who were affected by this tragedy |

You can thank Krunal for that song Leviathan is singing in frame three, he's quite brilliant.
Man, I felt really awkward drawing in all that blood at the bottom. I don't usually go for gore in the comic. However, I do think there should be some blood when a fire spirit gets run through with a huge ice lance...particularly after that "...'painfully'" line.
This comic took a while to make, but it was well worth it. I finally got that last frame to look how I wanted it and, with Krunal's help (and song contribution) the flow and script turned out just right. It has the morbid reality of the F.A. Fire Spirit losing the fight, with the humor of Leviathan singing Krunal's song. I love it!
Anyway, I still feel bad about having Flamey lose the fight, but I do think that the fight scene, on the whole, went very well, and I'm glad to be moving ahead in the script. Hope you guys liked it too.

Ladies and gentlemen! I have an important announcement! I need you all to stop what you're doing at once - err, well...unless what you're doing involves reading the comic and/or donating to it, in which cause you can go ahead and continue doing what you're doing...indefinitely - and check out this new Kingdom Hearts trailer!!!
Well everyone, the epic battle of Ganon, Leviathan, and the Emerald Fiend against the Freaking Awesome Fire Spirit has, at last, come to an end. And I must say, it pained me greatly to hurt the F.A. Fire Spirit. Yes, there were even times when I was tempted to let him win the fight against Ganon and Leviathan (he pretty much did win the fight against the Emerald Fiend), but doing so would not only irritate the comic's present script, but would drastically alter the events of the games the comic is parodying. So, with the heaviest of hearts, I let Leviathan beat him. Still, you never know, I may just find some way to keep him around...
Oh, and I'm sorry for missing another update on Monday, my schedule should be back to normal now. But, in my defense, these past few weeks have been on the intense side. I'm still arguing wtih Fairmont over the details of the tournament, and I have nutrition, economics, and English reading to catch up on.

Ladies and gentlemen, at long last, the anime reviews are all up and running!
Presently, we have reviews for .Hack//Sign, End of Evangelion, Neon Genesis: Evangelion, and Ranma 1/2. In the near future, I hope to add Full Metal Panic, Naruto, Cowboy Bebop, and Fruits Basket to that list...and Ghost in Shell if I ever get to see the last half of it.
Head on over the the anime review page to check it out, or click on one of the pics below for some quick access to the review pics.

And, I'm back. Sorry for missing that last update (and then for updating late today...man, that's a bad combination), but I kind of had to. This episode took a long time to make, and I had to redo certain parts of it a couple of times to get it to look how I wanted it. Anyway, it came out well in the end, so it was worth it.
Well spring quarter is off to a good start. Found all my classes (no professor swindled me out of a class by booting me out and then revealing later that there was space - and I'm not making that up, that really happened once), no computer glitch(es) caused my enrollment to be reversed in any of them (that happened once too), my professors seem like they're pretty cool, and, so far, the homework isn't too overwhelming.
As for the reviews, they should be up at some point tomorrow.

Ok, so we're back up to speed with Ganon hearing Leviathan's scream. Leviathan is about to nail the ground with a huge 'aqualung' spell, so we can all look forward to that.
Well I'm back at school. Spring break was very relaxing, and I had a lot of fun. I am, however, happy that spring quarter is starting. My classes are looking good so far, and my professors look like they're pretty cool.
I would also like to announce - I know I've said this before but I mean it this time - that all of the video game/anime/movie reviews will be up sometime this week. As will the psp wallpapers. So please look forward to that.
Oh! And good news on the tournament (see below for more info if you're on the latest page, or go here for more info if you're not); it's definitely a go! I dropped by Fairmont over break and they say they'll send me the paperwork in the next few days, after which all the details will be worked out. Anyone and everyone who is interested, please help spread the world so we can have an awesome competition!

Funny story: for the first version of this episode, I had all of Leviathan's direction-changing taking place in one frame (including the downward one in the this version's last frame). But when I actually stood back and looked at it, I realized that the 'direction changer' actually had Leviathan landing in more or less the exact same place as his original fall was going to make him land anyway. Hardly a 'direction changer' at all. Boy was my face red...
So I decided to move the last bunker farther to the upper left. But that only helped a little, and it made the frame kind of cramped. So instead I allowed the second-to-last bunker to throw him onto a completely different frame, and then had the final bunker come in later, thus solving my trajectory problem once and for all.
However, once I finally had the 'direction changer' set up how I wanted it, I noticed that the last two big frames were looking a tad...text-exempt. And Krunal agreed. So, I decided to add in an idea that I was kind of thinking about anyway: wouldn't it hurt to slide across something at that speed? Even if it was cold and mostly smooth, wouldn't the friction be a tad painful? I mean sure ice is really smooth and slippery, but it still has to have some friction (if it didn't, the only way for an ice skater to slow down would be to crash into something).
So I decided to throw that in. And then the reference to Leviathan's mother kind of cracked me up, so I decided to use the last frame to add a reference about his impending family reunion. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out, hope you all enjoyed it.
Enjoy,

Yup. Can't go more than two minutes...
Sorry for updating a few hours late (again), but, in my defense, I've been getting home really late/early ("early" meaning "past midnight") this week. And it's actually been pretty fun. Why only an hour ago I was driving home from Sam's at something close to 2am. There were no cars on the road, and almost every light was green! Oh, it was heavenly! I almost want to start doing it every night/day ("day" technically begins after midnight)...
As awesome as that was, however, I'm kind of hungry. I'm putting a lot of pressure on my dad's stash of pistachio nuts and junior mints (those are very refreshing), but I need more. I'll have to wake up early (something I only do in the most dire of situations, mind you) and go eat an early breakfast before I meet Sam, Eric, and Clint again tomorrow. Wish me luck.

That Emerald Fiend. Can't go two minutes without causing some sort of problem...
Well I'm happy with the way this comic came out. I thought having the Emerald Fiend knock Leviathan off course was the perfect mechanism for getting the events of 24 and 25 all set up. Hopefully you all liked it too. Next update, we'll see just how much of a difference the Emerald Fiend's fly-by makes in the events of Leviathan's flashback, and how it leads up to Ganon hearing the scream.
You know it's funny - well it kind of is - ever since I saw that Sonic and the Secret Rings trailer, I've gotten hooked on the Sonic X anime. I have to say, I really like it. It's a great show. Takes me right back to childhood. Parts of it follow the Sonic Adventure games, but there's lots of other good stuff in the plot as well, so it's not just a shameless 'game-to-anime' series. The voice acting is also surprisingly good - well some of the voices took a bit of time to get used to, but it's still genius dubbing by 4Kids Entertainment's standards (they're the guys that screwed up the English version of Naruto). I recommend that my fellow Sonic the Hedgehog fans go check it out.
Speaking of 'game-to-series' stuff, you guys have to check this out. It's a parody trailer for a Pac Man movie. That thing cracked me up. After watching it, I saw a comment where someone said that there was a real Pac Man movie in the works. So I did some digging/browsing online and, sure enough, there is a Pac Man movie, Castlevania movie, Tekken movie, and a third Resident Evil movie in the works. Well there have been a lot of 'game-to-movie' movies lately, and I've liked most of them (the Tomb Raiders were good, the second Resident Evil was good - still haven't seen the first - and I'm pretending Doom never happened...Mortal Combat didn't do much for me either).
Now, as concerned as I am for the well-being of Hollywood's originality, I have to say that some of these have potential. Castlevania could be good, so long as they get the setting and mood right. Tekken could be good as long as it doesn't turn into an unofficial Kiss of the Dragon and/or Bloodsport remake. ...Actually, come to think of it, the real problem with a Tekken movie is that everyone who's played the games knows who's going to win the tournament. It's going to be hard to maintain the drama if they don't alter the script (thus ticking off all the people obsessed with the Tekken franchise and storyline, and potentially losing touch with their target audience) or do a really good job with character development. Hmm...
As for Pac Man...I don't know, that sounds like a bit of a stretch. Depends on what they do with it. This might turn out to be better.
Enjoy,

Oh man, this is going to be good...
Hey guys, sorry for the late update, I had a bit of trouble with some file transfers...or lack thereof. I struggled a bit with the proportions of this comic (i.e. I had trouble portraying all of the events with Leviathan falling toward the fireball within acceptable distance and time margins...or, to put it even more simply, I had trouble deciding how fast Leviathan should be hovering and falling), but the result was well worth the effort. We're going to stick with Leviathan for the next couple of comics, before catching back up to Ganon hearing the scream.
Well I finally did it. I got a copy of Sonic and the Secret Rings, and I am greatly enjoying it. The Wii controls took a minute or two to get used to, but it was worth it for the terrific graphics, gameplay, and storyline.
My, it seems like only yesterday when I first saw that lovely preview for Sonic and the Secret of the Rings (and then, after that, I saw a little re-dubbed version which cracked me up)... I'm a big Sonic the Hedgehog fan - no, I'm not saying he'd win a fight against Mario, I want to be perfectly clear on that, I'm just saying that he would probably win a fight against Mario - so, naturally, I've been looking forward to this release for some time. All of my fellow Sonic the Hedgehog fans should check out that preview here, and the re-dubbed version here. So the list of Wii games that I'm anxiously awaiting is now as follows: Smash Brothers Brawl, and Rayman. Therefore...what? ...What do you mean "not only is that last one already out, but you actually played it with Eric a few weeks ago, you idiot?"
Speaking of Sonic, I have to say I was disappointed with the Dreamcast's short lifespan. It was an excellent system, and Sonic Adventure was an awesome game. Shenmue was good too, but it's hard for me to advocate the game that most contributed to the Dreamcast's downfall. I'm glad to see that Sega is still running strong with Sonic, even though they're currently out of the console business.
Oh and, before I forget, I wanted to announce that Din's appearance last update is thanks to Krunal's brilliant advice regarding the ordering of thought bubbles. I wanted to be sure to give him credit for that. And, what they hey, I'm also going to announce that Emmerson, Lake, and Palmer are awesome.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go make up some other reason to play more Twilight Princess...
Enjoy,

That sword is awesome. Enough said.
This comic took a while to make (getting the sword to look just right took some doing), but it was worth it. The dialogue and/or monologues came out very nicely, and added a lot of humor to the action of the FA fire spirit's sword-enchanting...ness. The action flows very nicely (I think all the enchantments came out well, particularly the logo), and ends with a lovely cliffhanger. Stay tuned next update, when we'll reveal just who is screaming...maybe.
Alright, my finals are over!!!! Most of them went well, and thanks to Eric my computer science project is awesome. I'm very pleased with how the last bit of this quarter went.
Ok. So I'm sitting at my computer, and I look out my window, and there are some horses wandering on the hills, on the other side of the fence behind my dorm building. After a while, a group of students wandered over, and started
petting, feeding, and taking pictures of them. It looked like they had fun, but they had a bit of trouble as well. At one point, a guy takes off his jacket and sets it on the ground. When he's not looking, one of the horses sneaks up, grabs his jacket between its teeth, and starts wandering away with it. They guy ran up to the horse screaming "don't eat it! Don't eat it!," and managed to get it back, but all his friends laughed at him. A little while later, after I turn back to my computer, and I hear someone yell "he just bit my shoe!"
Naturally, I IM'd Krunal and told him all about this...
| Me: |
| Lol. "He took a bite of my shoe!" The horses are pwning these guys... |
|
| Krunal: |
| Lol. Horses are a challenge rating of 4. |
|
| Krunal: |
| Actually, that's warhorses. |
|
| Krunal: |
| Regular horses are a challenge rating of 1. |
|
| Krunal: |
| Those guys are like level 1 commoners, they could never take the horses. They're an npc class. |
|
...and I laughed my tail off.
I wish you all a pleasent spring break - or "I hope you all had a pleasant spring break" if yours already happened. Oh, and check out our image gallery. I'm gonna try to get up some pics of Krunal's trip.

One thing you do have to appreciate about the FA fire spirit is that he's all business. No banter, no distractions, just gets right to the part where he tries to kill you...
Well like I was saying earlier, I think this comic does a good job of evening out the speech :: action ratio a bit (granted, you can't hear what Ganon is saying for about half of it). The comics that are almost all action and have very little dialogue are cool, don't get me wrong, but sometimes they can feel a bit short. Hopefully this evened things out a bit.
And yes, for those of you who are curious I actually did write dialogue for Ganon after he got silenced (that's why there is still punctuation and the occasional italic/bold string of periods), but I replaced all of the letters with periods. I was originally going to have the 'silence spell' text translated somewhere, but I didn't think to start doing that until after I had all of the would-be-dialogue written, and by that time I...erm...well...by that time I'd forgotten what most of it was going to say...sorry.
In other news, Eric is awesome! He helped me finish my computer science final project - which, I remind you, is the scholastic equivalent of dragging my half-dead body out of a burning building - and he sent me some lovely psp wallpapers, which I will upload tomorrow.
Sorry for updating a little late today, but I've only just a few minutes ago finished my computer science final project. I've got a long night ahead still, but I should be back on track next update.

Fighter would be so proud... (posted by Jon) |
Alright! Image gallery update!
We've got nineteen lovely Final Fantasy Versus XIII pics (sampled below), which I ripped from that trailer I mentioned yesterday. I think they came out pretty well. The trailer itself? Oh it was beautiful...
A young man is walking out of a castle. As he descends the stairs outside, an army of heavily armed soldiers are waiting for him. They fire at him with machine guns, but he swats the bullets away with a bunch of swords (I counted eight) that he is levitating and wielding with magic. When the soldiers finally run out of ammo (or become too awe-stricken to keep firing, maybe) he grabs one of the swords out of the air, and sends the others flying toward the soldiers...
Dun dun dun...
|
|
|
Now that's a shame. But hey, at least he didn't get launched into outer space, or suffocate from lack of air, right?
Anyway, I'm happy with how this comic turned out (thought I do feel kind of bad for the Emerald Fiend...), and if nothing else it does an excellent job of setting the stage for the events in the next episode. Just like I wanted, we got Ganon on the ground, and the final phase of the fight scene is ready to go. I know these past few comics might have felt a little short (the action :: dialogue ratio went up a bit), but we'll get it all sorted out next update, so no worries.
Well I've had a good Friday. I spent most of it playing Final Fantasy XII (probably not the best idea since finals are next week, but what can you do?), and I must say I am really enjoying it. Can't wait to see where the story goes. I'll probably be biding my time between FFXII and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the time being. Although Sonic and the Secret Rings is certainly tempting...
Oh, by the way, I went and looked up some trailers for Final Fantasy XIII (here), and Final Fantasy Versus XIII (here) - which is an action game made by the FFVII: Advent Children and Kingdom Hearts crews, that takes place in the same universe as Final Fantasy XIII. Both of them look awesome! For the time being though, I'm not going to be looking very hard for a PS3. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one, but right now there aren't many games out for it that are screaming at me. Resistance looked alright, but I was happier getting a Wii for Wii Sports, Twilight Princess, and now possibly Sonic and the Secret Rings. But hey, soon as Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy [Versus] XIII, Devil May Cry 4, and/or possibly Assassins' Creed comes out, I'll be all over it!
Enjoy,

Alright! I finally did it! All of the Weapons Monthlies are up and working! And may I say the look marvelous! They have all been vastly improved up (and spell-checked, I might add) since their first versions, and I hope you'll all take a look at them sometime.
Incidentally, I also fixed that broken "Videoletrix" link on the external links page, and all of the images and pages in the image gallery are up and running. Some of the game/anime/movie reviews are still missing, but I should have all of those up later today or tomorrow.
On a side note, Krunal is on vacation in the Caribbean, and he's having a blast! Tomorrow he leaves Tobago for Trinidad. Hopefully his trip will keep going well from there on. With any luck he'll bring back some pictures for the working image gallery. |

BEST...FIREBALL...EVER!
I absolutely love the way that fireball turned out, it looks so awesome! I took one like at that fireball, I just knew I had to show it leaving the atmosphere. I had toyed with the idea of a fire spell that could be seen from space, but a fireball leaving the stratosphere worked out even better. I also had fun with that sound effect joke (the idea for which came partially from my dealings with Xenosaga - specifically that scene where KOS-MOS can't talk because the air around her is too thin to carry her voice). But what really brings it all home is the dialogue. The stuff the Emerald Fiend says as he falls back down is hilarious, if I do say so myself.
Now, a lot of people will tell you that, because there is no atmosphere, and that fire needs oxygen in order to burn, there should be no fireball when spaceships explode in movies. Do not be fooled! The dolts forgot one thing: there's oxygen being carried on board the spaceships (otherwise all the people walking around the Death Star would have to be wearing spacesuits...which they're not...so there's oxygen...yeah). So yeah, rules for spaceships exploding in movies: fiery explosion yes, fiery explosion noise n - oh wait...if there's oxygen on board...and oxygen carries sound...never mind, keep the noise too.
Speaking of Xenosaga, I may have to write a review for that later. It was a good game, and had an absolutely fantastic storyline. Xenosaga II was good too, but I never quite finished it (not form lack of trying mind you, I can't beat the patriarch...). Also, I thought some of the new voice actors were could have been better. Chaos' was alright, but some of the other ones drove me crazy (especially KOS-MOS' new voice actor; androids should NOT have high squeaky voices! No, no, no!). I have not invested in Xenosaga III yet, but I'm certainly tempted to. I want to see where the storyline goes. Of course, if that's the case, it would probably be best if I beat II before beginning III. Hmm...
Oh and, before I forget, I finally got everything in our image gallery working. All the pics and pages are up, and there are no broken links. Check it out some time!
I should have all of the Weapons Monthlies up by tomorrow, and then the reviews will be up soon after.
Enjoy,

Aww man. Now we'll never know what the shockwave pulsar does...
I actually struggled a bit with the script for this comic. I knew from the get-go that I wanted to finish the battle on the ground, as doing so is essential for the events of the next few comics. My original plan was to have the Emerald Fiend actually get hit by the shockwave pulsar spell, and then that would somehow result in Ganon ending up on the ground. However, I couldn't find a way of implementing the idea that I liked. Also, I thought it was somewhat of a let down that neither Ganon nor the Emerald Fiend could think of a way to avoid the spell again, so I decided, instead, to have the fiend dodge it.
Once I began experimenting with the dodge, I concluded that it would be way funnier if Ganon just flat-out fell off, so I worked that into the Emerald Fiend's motions. After that I naturally concluded that a little bar representing Ganon's grip would be hilarious, so I added that in. And then in the final frame I thought something should happen if Ganon was going to pass right by the FA fire spirit, so I added the final reflect spell. And I tell you, it was all wroth it! The comic came out great. It's always good to see a comic work out even better than I originally planned. Hope everyone likes it.
I would also like to add that Secret of Mana: Animated Theater has finally started again! That's right, Sprite Monkey has finally started up his flash movie/webcomic again! Also, for those of you who don't know, the first book of Caroline Curtis' 9th Elsewhere, the first book of Lady Yate's EarthSongSaga, and the fifth book of Fred Gallagher's Megatokyo have been completed, and are ready to be ordered! You can use these links to visit these webcomics, or seek them out on external links page.
But, if that's somehow still not enough for you...new sbmail!

*Groan...* So...many...doinks... I can't feel my sanity...
Well all doinks aside, I'm happy with how this comic turned up. I hope you'll all forgive that random DBZ joke, I just couldn't help myself. I also thought about comparing it to the rasengan in Naruto, but I didn't have room to do both, so I went with my first one. I would, however, like to use this off-hand remark to justify the following announcement (from NarutoFan): episode five of Naruto Hurricane Chronicles will not be airing until March 15th! Some weird TV scheduling thing. But hey, it's worth the wait to have the fillers be over! W00T!
Well I have to say, this has been a good week for the comic. This Ganon vs F.A. Fire Spirit arc is coming along spectacularly, and I have great plans in store for the remainder of it. Also, I am constantly thrilled with how much better this comic is than my first version of the comic (for those of you who don't know, there was an earlier version of CGC on the web a few years ago, but I had to start over when our server died...or, more accurately, when the server went out of business, and its owner apparently skipped town with all our files). I tell you, this version of the comic is way worth the hassle of losing the first version.
Also, I went and saw 300 with two of my friends this evening (but Krunal saw it first! Sneaky little *grumble *grumble*...), and I must say I really enjoyed it. Don't get me wrong it was really violent, but the writers managed to balance it out with a few comical moments, and the story really does make you want to cheer for the Spartans over the Persians, which keeps it from becoming one of those movies that have absolutely no likeable characters...those are hard to swallow if you ask me. Anyway, I liked it. Good show. Avoid it if you don't like violent movies though.
So yeah, I'm doing great. Thanks for asking. Hope you're all doing well too. See you next update!

You know, at first I was just going to have the Emerald Fiend's text bubble be white with black text like almost everyone else's. But then I thought "you know, I did bother to call him the Emerald Fiend..." so I made it dark green with white text. ...Please don't confuse him with Farore.
This comic took a while to make, but I'm happy with the way it came out. I upgraded the image a bit from the last meteor spell (after modifying an image that I found here), and I think that came out nicely. It also does an excellent job of setting us up for the great reflective battle of episode 16 that you will - hopefully - be thrilled to see next update.
In other news, I finally got a Nintendo Wii! Woohoo! My roommates and I are having a blast playing the Wii Sports game that came with the system, and I am absolutely loving Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I'm thinking I probably will use Twilight Princess in the comic's storyline, but that won't be for a while yet. Red Steel is also great, it does an excellent job of incorporating the Wii's motion-sensing abilities into a first person shooter game. And Eric showed us the new Rayman game, which totally cracked me up. Rayman gets captured by these deranged rabbits, and they take him to coliseum and force him to compete in all these mini-games and, and...oh man, it's hilarious!
So yeah, Twilight Princess is awesome. I can't stress that enough people. For those of you who have or will have a Wii, make sure you look into getting Twilight Princess. It's my favorite Zelda game to date. All I have to do now is sit back, wait for march, and track down Smash Brothers Brawl...

The Emerald Fiend looks freaking awesome! A big "thank you" to Eric for helping me with the design.
Well I finished my second-to-last essay (hurray!), and I'm quite pleased with it. My last one is just a revision of an old one, so it should be easier. My two exams are still looming over the horizon as ominously as ever, but I'm confident that I can find a way to get through them with minimal grade and/or sanity loss.
So, all things considered, things are moving along quite nicely up/down (depends on where you are) here. We've got a bit of rain, but it's nothing serious, I finished comic #14, and my first essay, and still found time to play Mario Cart with my roommates. Blair B got StarCross'd Destiny back up, volume one of 9th Elsewhere has been published, and Krunal read all of Commissioned.
Tragically, however, I haven't had a whole lot of time to play Final Fantasy XII. I think I might be starting to have withdrawals...what? What's that Balthier? You say I should go hunt down the bangaa pirates? But...but I can't right now, I've got finals. I...that's...no, no I couldn't possibly...the moogles will never give me the answers to the exam! No...no, it'll never work, my level isn't high enough! Even if I had enough license points there's no place that sells those spells. If there were monsters around that had the spells, then I could hunt them down and take them, but I don't know of any...what? You say the readers have them...?
Enjoy,

Like I said, opening the door/dispelling the shield and releasing the backdraft rarely works out well...
This comic took me forever to finish, but it was totally worth it! The dialogue is good, the stacking of barrier spells came out beautifully, I made that nice new pose for Leviathan, and I am particularly happy with that little 'Leviathan vs F.A. fire spirit' frame. All things considered, this comic was definitely time well spent!
In other news, I've just been informed (kind of) that StarCross'd Destiny has finally begun again! It was in hiatus for a long time, but I saw a link for when I was reading the latest Misfile, so I took a look at it, and sure enough it's finally started again! Drop in some time and give Blair B a nice "welcome back!"
Speaking of which, Lady Yates, of EarthSongSaga, has published the first chunk of her webcomic. EarthSongSaga is a great comic, and I'm glad it's finally hit the presses. Anyone interested should take a look, I encourage anyone who's interested to look into buying it.
We've got the next leg of the fight scene all planned out, and I must say it is terrific (wait untill you see what that last summon looks like...)! Be sure to tune in next update to see what happens!
Enjoy,

Given what I know about fire (although I never saw the movie Backdraft...), the stuff that the F.A. fire spirit's melt crest does is actually possible. I do know that when a fire uses up all the air in a room, it will attempt to draw more by forming vacuum and sucking in air from under the door, and through any other opening it can find. Then, should someone actually open the door, the resulting air rush causes the fire to release all of its stored up potential, draw in tons of air at once, and, in effect, explode outward. I would imagine that such a powerful vacuum would also be capable of scooping up small debris and carrying it into the center of the fire, where the force of the suction is the strongest. Needless to say, this rarely works out well for the person who opened the door. ...Boy, I sure hope nothing like that happens to Ganon...
Oh, that reminds me. I got Krunal reading Commissioned when I told him about a Christmas special on it that made me fall out of my seat laughing...during a computer class. And he, in turn, got me hooked on Order of the Stick. So check those links out sometime (or seek the out in our external links page).

Straight off, I'd say Ganon is at a bit of a disadvantage. The F.A. fire spirit made short work of his little volt guys - which now leaves only two uses left on his summoning materia - and so far he's only had enough elbow room to cast defensive two defensive spells - reflect and whirlwind shield - while the F.A. fire spirit is running around casting offensive magic - meteor, sirocco, phoenix pulse, sirocco, and melt crest - like crazy! And that's not even mentioning what's going to happen in the next update...
Well finals week is looming over me even as we speak, but I did manage to finish about 1.25 of the two essays I have due tomorrow. I am, however, then faced with the daunting fact that my geology class - a subject I am not particularly strong in - and my English core class both have finals on Tuesday. I've got a lot - and I do mean a lot - of catch-up reading to do for core (lousy study habits...), and in geology I just have straight-up no clue what's going on. Suddenly I'm a little worried...
Also, my attempts to find a Wii have been fruitless. I got a lead on a store that was getting some in today, and I was going to go try to get one with my roommate Kenny, but - wouldn't you know it? - both of our alarm clocks didn't go off. By the time we were both out of bed, the store had run out. So, the moral of this story is, it's probably best not to use your cell phone as your alarm clock...but if you do use your cell phone as your alarm clock, make sure you don't still have it on silent from the day before, when you turned it off to stop the annoying chirping noise it makes when Krunal keeps texting you and telling you to get on AIM...

Man I love this comic... .
I'm very pleased with how this comic came out. I feel that it flows nicely, it's very funny, and it's infinitely better than my first verison. The next few comics will chronicle a lovely fight scene between Ganon and the freaking awesome F.A. fire spirit.
Furthermore, I added a bio for Ganon on the character page. It's nothing spectacular, but it does a nice job of providing some background information, and hinting at the events of future comics, so be sure to check it out when you have a moment.
Also I just did an essay on Franklin's tale (of the Canterbury Tales), and I have concluded that the magician is the most generous character, Aurelius is the biggest jerk, and Avreraus has the hardest name to spell. My roommate throught it was good, and I hope he's right becuase I could really use an A on it... And my second essay turned out not to be due untill Thursday. Score!

I was wrong. An entire comic about Ganon jumping down the skylight turned out to be hilarious. Even so, I'm glad I did that Moogle/Chicken War comic last time, I really like how that turned out, and it will be important later in the story. Also, be sure to check the character page later on, as I will soon put one up for Ganon.
Well finals are coming up for me next week, but for some reason I haven't started freaking out yet. I have time to finish both of my final essays tonight and tomorrow, so that hasn't shaken me too much. Of course, after that I will have two huge tests - on in geology, one in English core. I'm not too worried about those two tests either, but I'm sure I will be when it gets closer to the day I have to take them. Funny how that works...
My weekend has been pretty fun. I'm stuck on this one part of Final Fantasy XII, but nevertheless I'm really enjoying it. Playing the game is a lot of fun, even if I am currently stuck on this one part. I'll play some more tonight and hopefully get past it. Hope everything is going well for you readers too.
By the way, does anyone know about the Live Action Evangelion movie that's in the works? I've seen a few pics, but otherwise I don't know a whole lot about it - except that it's a live-action movie version of the Neon Genesis: Evangelion anime (or some of it anyway), which was a good series with a bad ending (in my opinion anyway). Actually, if they keep the whole series exactly the same for the movie, and the give it a better ending that would probably work...though I suppose the Rebuild of NGE movies are pretty much already doing that. Hmm...

Once again, I am thrilled with the way this comic came out. Granted, a Moogle/Chicken war might seem a bit random, but I thought a whole comic about Ganon climbing down the skylight - or possibly a whole comic about him just figuring out he can climb down the skylight - might feel a bit slow. Also, believe it or not, I have some good ideas as to how to use this event later in the story.
So, during Thanksgiving break my cousins introduced me to an anime called Fruits Basket, and I must say I really enjoyed it. It has a tender feel to it which I enjoyed, but it is also funny and dramatic. It crawled into my heart amazingly quickly, and I highly recommend it. Additionaly, I watched most of the first season of Ranma 1/2 (and after doing so, I also wrote a review for it), and I am really enjoying that as well. I was immediately taken in by the zany-ness and downright hilarity of it. The endless amount of crazy situations (both romantic and martial-arts-related) is intoxicating, and I have found myself quite hooked. Again, highly recommended. So yeah, in one week I found two animes that I had to immediately add to my 'all time favorites' list. Score!
Well, hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving break. I know I did. Stay tuned next update for more of what happens to Ganon, here on CGC!

Once again, I am extremely pleased with the way this comic came out. The triforce background behind D. Narrator looks awesome, that pic of Lucia's sister (which was really hard to find, by the way) looks great, and the dialogue flows quite nicely.
Ok, I've got to tell you guys this story...
Last year I enrolled in a "politics of ethnicity and gender" class - which you must never take because it will ruin your life, GPA! - and I had to write an essay on "a time when not knowing someone's gender affected my life in some way." Now I know right now you're probably saying "uhh..." and I could not agree with you more!
Now, the only example I could think of was this one time when I went into a video game store with Eric and Sam (and Clint might have been there too, I can't remember), and there's this guy leaning over the counter. He has long hair, and because of the way he's leaning I can't see his chest or his Adam's apple so...yup, you guessed it, I thought he was a girl.
So the whole essay basically said: "yo! This one time my homies and I went into this hole-in-the-wall game shop, and there was this thing leaning over the counter. I thought it was a girl, but it turned out to be a guy, and then Sam laughed at me." I got a B.
So now you're probably thinking "you wrote that and got a B!?" And...what do want? The class was stupid!
Then comes the final exam question: "ramble on for the length of a final exam (which is conveniently unspecified) about how discrimination has played a role in your life." Now, the honest answer is "it hasn't because I'm not a racist, and I pay so little attention I probably wouldn't know if I, myself, was being discriminated against," but I didn't think actually writing that would get me anywhere, so I had to come up with something else...
So my whole final exam was about how I went from not caring that I was the majority race at my sophomore school to not caring that I wasn't the majority race at my junior/senior school (big, life-changing transition there...). Then I threw in something in about how one of my Japanese friends had a Chinese girlfriend, and how that didn't bother anyone (except for one guy, but no one really values his opinion, so whatever). The professor gave me a C, revenge will be mine...
Now, here's what I should have written: "oh yes, all my life I've had a friend - who doesn't exist will remain nameless - who is venomously racist against <insert professor's race here> people. There were several occasions during which Krunal and I had to apply shock treatment to keep him from lashing out against <insert professor's race again> people. Our childhoods were tumultuous at best, and I often wonder how different and/or more well adjusted Krunal and I might be today if we didn't have to deal with this friend's groundless hatred all of our lives... <drip water on the paper here so it looks like you started crying>" No way I get less than 700% on that...
I dunno, having a class that requires participants to have been discriminated against - or, at least, to have had lives shaped by discrimination - in order to pass just seems wrong to me...
In closing, NEVER TAKE THAT CLASS!!!!
Enjoy,

And remember folks, useless secondary characters are people...or eidolons...or whatever-Carbuncle-is'es too! Oh sure some of them are annoying. Like Rafa in Final Fantasy Tactics, who automatically runs toward the assassins during the 'Riovanes Roof' battle, and it counts as a game over when they effortlessly kill her. Or some of those guys you're supposed to keep alive in Guild Wars perhaps. But yeah, they're still people!
Although I have to say, that was a pretty slick move by Carbuncle; using Ifrit's apparant love of hamburgers to trick him into jumping down that bottomless pit and all. I'll probably have him and Ifrit both appear again later in the comic.
Well, in other news, Final Fantasy XII continues to be awesome, and re-reading the earlier comics has made me really want to play Lunar 2 and Legend of Legaia again. I don't know when/if they're going to make a Lunar 3, but I hope they do. They did make another Legaia game (Dual Saga), which was good, but I felt it could have been even better. As a stand alone game it was nice, but I was hoping they'd do a tie-in to the first game by discussing what happenes with Cort. ...Actually, a game starring Cort could have been pretty awesome. Oh well, guess you can't have everything...

There are an awful lot of different types of elves, aren't there? I mean, this isn't even considering wht happens in the case of undead elves. Can elves turn into vampires, or do they become orcs like in Lord of the Rings? Or are dark elves really the same thing as undead elves, just without the generic vampire-type lingo? And what's all this I hear about blood elves in the new World of Warcraft expansion? Are they vampires? Will/should they ever make an Underworld 3? Well I don't know either, it's a big can of worms. But don't worry, I'll figure it out someday. ...well I might...
Well vampires or not, I'm really pleased with how this comic turned out. The Tieg/Farore split frame came out nicely, the pic of Lucia with the planet in the background is lovely, and I have to say I really like that huge frame at the bottom, that came out really well. So yeah, all things considered I couldn't be happier with how this comic looks.
In other news, Final Fantasy XII is freaking awesome! The graphics are amazing, the sound (music and voice acting) is brilliant, the new battle system is a brilliant combination of the old and the new, the storyline is highly engrossing, and they brought back the moogles! Oh, life is sweet!

Jon! Orcs are not undead elves! They're elves that were twisted and corrupted by Sauron, like trolls were of ents! Fix it! Do it NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
|
|
|
Ok, so orcs are out then. But the blood elf, dark elf, and vampire elf dispute remains. I think I remember something from Morrowind about elves being able to become vampires...
Also, I've been informed that blood elves are actually a faction of high elves that are addicted to magic. They have a deal running with the leader of the Naga (serpent/men...kinda like Dias from Breath of Fire, though I think she was a tad cooler) leader - Illidan. Illidan will give the blood elves enough magic - from demonic sources, he may have neglected to mention that - to satisfy their addiction, so long as they remain allied with him, and help him with his conquest (I got this info from the blood elf wiki if you want to know).
Still not sure about dark elves though...
|
|
|
And dark elves - also known as drow - are evil or neutral elves who have fled to the Underdark - underground cities - to escape from their good kinsmen. |

Wow. All this talk about viera, bangaa, moogles, sirens, and dragons makes me really, really want to go play Final Fantasy XII...
Anyway, I'm happy with the way this comic came out. You do have to respect how Din never gave up his fight to have dragons, and Naryu somehow does seem like the type who would like sirens. Although I have to say that wind spirit/moogles would have been pretty cool. Cute little furry guys that can summon up hurricanes...takes me back to my days as a Final Fantasy VI player...
Speaking of which, has anyone noticed how the population of moogles seems to fluctuate in Final Fantasy games? There were tons of them in Final Fantasy VI (as well there should have been, Mog was totally awesome!), a few in a Final Fantasy VII mini-game, one as a summon in Final Fantasy VIII (but only in the Japanese version), then there were lots of them again in IX and XI, but none in X and X-2. I hope they come back in XII, I miss them...

Yeah, leaving humans with access to incredibly destructive machinery, and interstellar humanoid fighting suits, alone for more than .000002 seconds is probably not a good idea.
Actually, I originally had the machine age world expressed with a Bangai-O screenshot, but it looked a tad crampred. It was Krunal who then suggested that a pic of two giant mecs arguing with one another might be more flashy, and more amusing (I got that pic from here by the way). And how right he was! That four-frame pic looks way better than my first version!
I would also like to add that I really like Lucia's character. Watching her character - and her relationship with Hiro - develop was just one of the many things that made Lunar 2: Eternal Blue such a great game. I wonder if they'll be making a third one...

Legend of Legaia was a great game. Although I did always find it odd that Gala had the strongest attack power, yet always did the least amount of damage because his specials had the lowerst number of hits. His spells were also diminished by his low magic power. While Noa, despite being the weakest character, did by far the most damage because her specials had the highest number of hits, and had high magic power. And Vahn...meh, he just kinda did whatever. But I think it's safe to say that Gala would be the one in most dire need of a Seru upgrade. Ozma's spells just don't seem to pick up the difference...
Final Fantasy IX was a great game too (although as of now I would have to say that VII is still my favorite). I love the way it incorporated so much of the summoning spells into the storyline (via terrific CGI cutscenes). Watching Bahamut fight Alexander, and Odin blow that city to bits, was quite impressive. Speaking of which, I just got Final Fantasy XII a few days back, and I need to start playing it. It looks pretty good, so I'll probably write up a review for it later on.

Let's see...
Din, Farore, and Naryu (from Legend of Zelda)
are arguing about dragons, dropping sandwiches into huge vats of interdimensional toxic waste, making references to Lunar 2: Eternal Blue and Breath of Fire III, and making an outcast out of the Iskar character from EverQuest 2.........this is the greatest webcomic in the history of mankind!
For those of you who don't know, every Legend of Zelda game opens with Din, Farore, and Naryu creating the triforce, and then the main character (Link) usually gets some kind of weapon or spell that is based on them (i.e. 'din's fire,' 'farore's wind,' and 'naryu's love'). Seeing as how Din seems to be fire element, and his spell is always offensive, it somehow seemed right to make him a dragon-obsessed lunatic in the comic. Farore is famous for her wisdom, so it's probably safe to say that the sandwich thing really was an accident. And Naryu is famous for being loving and gentle, so she's always trying to mediate between the two of them. It's a beautiful thing really....well maybe not Din, but you know what I mean.

First/Last GA Comic! (posted by Jon) |
Curse you Galrath!
Alright! it's our pilot episode! Woohoo!
Just for the record though, this will probably be our only episode of the hand-drawn comic (GA). Starting next update, we'll get our main sprite comic (CGC) going. I was pleased with how the hand-drawn comic came out, but now that Allison quit we don't have an illustrator for it. It's kinda hard to work around that...
For those of you who have played Guild Wars, you will surely know of the 'Galrath Villany' quest. Eric, Sam, and I had all kinds of trouble with that run, let me tell you. Everyone kept dying...and then staying dead because healer henchmen seems to think that healing is more important than rezing. Next thing we knew, we were all at -60% death penalty...which caused us to die more. Phew! It was a mess.
Anywho, thanks for watching our first episode! We've got a great comic in the works here, so stick around to find out what happens next. And remeber, the comic will be updated every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!
Enjoy,
